What can a Maplewood MN chiropractor help with? In this blog, we will look at 5 different things a Maplewood chiropractor can help you with, and the perks of getting them fixed with me at Restoration Chiropractic!

Chiropractors are masters at understanding the body as a whole and its many different functions. As chiropractors, We can find what hurts, where it hurts, and why it hurts by taking a thorough look at your past and present health, performing a phenomenal exam, and taking full spine x-rays. Many health problems that commonly get swept under the rug actually turn out to be a Chiropractor's expertise! Do you have an ache or pain that isn't getting any better? Or perhaps you aren't in pain, but noticed yourself feeling tired, weak, or dizzy. Or maybe you have high blood pressure, or a hormone imbalance. Whatever you may be dealing with, a good chiropractor will be able to help find the answer and have a solution to your health through a series of specific chiropractic adjustments.
Lets dig into 5 different things a Maplewood Chiropractor can help with, and why you should get them resolved with me at Restoration Chiropractic!
#1 - Back and Neck Pain
Back pain and neck pain are the leading cause of disability worldwide. More is spent annually on back issues then on cancer, coronary artery disease, and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) combined! That makes back pain a huge problem, and I bet as you are reading this you have back or neck pain right now! The good news is chiropractors know the spine like the "back" of their hand, and with good chiropractic care, most back and neck issues CAN be corrected.
Chiropractic is a broad profession and there are many different types of chiropractic care. Any of you readers out there who have had chiropractic care before are likely used to the Diversified technique: typically you lay on the treatment table face down, and get each side of the pelvis, the spine, and both sides of the neck adjusted on each visit. Instead of normal chiropractic, at Restoration Chiropractic I adjust your spine with the Gonstead technique. Only 2% of all chiropractors in Minnesota are trained in this special method. Gonstead chiropractic adjustments are more specific, more precise, and patients tend to feel much better with the specificity used in adjusting their spine. #2 - Headaches
There are many different kinds of headaches. Migraine, tension, sinus, behind the eye, back of the head, one sided, morning, evening, the list goes on. Well guess what? They ALL mean something different! You cannot treat two headaches the same way. The most important thing to remember about headaches is they are warnings and a symptom that something is not right. Dealing with monthly, weekly, or even daily headaches is a sure sign that there is a problem. The good news is if the root cause of your headaches can be found effectively, they can be resolved! There is a cause, and there is also a solution to your headaches.
Headaches are a classic warning sign that somewhere, your body isn’t working right. Unbalanced if you will. Hormonal headaches are the most common type that I see in the office. Pain in the temples that goes into the forehead and sometimes even into the eyes are usually how a hormonal headache presents. Since the nervous system controls the endocrine system which controls hormones, it makes sense that to correct a hormone imbalance you must correct the proper nerves to restore hormone balance. The culprit many times is irritation of nerves that lead to the thyroid gland, adrenal glands, or reproductive organs. To effectively correct a hormonally rooted headache, the correct bone in the spine must be addressed and adjusted. This is just an example of one type of headache, but the principle is the same for most other headaches: address the irritated nerves by adjusting the spine.

“The doctor of the future will give no medicine but will interest the patient in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease.” – Thomas Edison
#3 - Scoliosis
Scoliosis is when the spine curves sideways. Many people have some sort of sideways curve, but it is not technically “scoliosis” until that sideways curve (or curves) has reached 10 degrees or more. From a medical standpoint, idiopathic scoliosis has no known cause. 'Idiopathic' quite literally means disease of an unknown cause. The only treatment is either back bracing or surgery. From a chiropractic standpoint, scoliosis is treated the same way every other spine is treated: with specific chiropractic adjustments.
"Idiopathic" scoliosis is the result of a chronic subluxation: A vertebra that has shifted out of place, inflaming the disc or joint capsule, and irritates a nearby nerve. When you have a subluxation, your body’s mechanism to relieve that irritation and inflammation is to compensate or adapt to the irritation. For example, if there is an irritated nerve along the left side of your body, your body will lean away to the right to relieve the pressure. If this irritation continues and does not get corrected, eventually your spine and body will twist and bend in order to keep your eyes level and your head facing forward (righting reflex). Since the subluxation is still there, and your body’s reflex is to keep the eyes level, the spine has to compensate.

...Now, why do some individuals develop scoliosis and others do not? That can only be answered when learning how the specific individual handles stress. That is a topic for another time.
#4 - Dizziness
There are three different parts of your body that work together to keep you balanced: Your eyesight, your inner ear, and the proprioceptive portion of the nervous system. Each one of these work together to maintain the position of your body, whether you are moving or sitting still. You have to be able to perform a task such as bending down to pick something up, leaning back, looking side to side, etc. without falling over or feeling like you have to fall over. Our nervous system coordinates all of these together to keep us balanced. Many different combinations are possible that can cause dizziness or vertigo, but most of them boil down to a lack of coordination between the eyes, ears, and proprioception.
Dizziness is almost purely a condition of the nervous system. Chiropractors are well known for treating dizziness and vertigo because we work directly with your nerves! If you struggle with dizziness, vertigo, or nausea with movement, I invite you to make an appointment. It may be as simple as a quick, specific spinal adjustment! At Restoration Chiropractic, I perform Gonstead neck adjustments: your neck stays neutral. There is no twisting or bending of your neck. If the dizziness is coming from your neck, neutral neck adjustments are the safest and most effective type of chiropractic adjustment you can receive.

#5 - Digestion
Last, but certainly not least on the list of ailments a chiropractor can help with is digestion. Peptic ulcers, diarrhea, bloating, constipation, crohn's, ulcerative colitis, malabsorption, and many more are effectively helped through chiropractic care. These are not just random symptoms, they are the result of some sort of irritation, likely in the nervous system. When digestion is impaired, it needs to be thoroughly examined. We must eat to live, and if we cannot digest properly, our whole body will be affected. One way or another.
Sometimes cleaning up a diet can tremendously help digestive complaints. Our bodies are very sensitive to any poisons that we ingest, and removing the toxic foods (refined sugars, fast foods, toxic chemicals in food labels) can sometimes make a night and day difference in digestion. But what if you've tried all the diets? What if you have already eliminated certain foods and you still have digestive troubles? Then there is a deeper issue that goes beyond the foods you are eating. Like I stated above, there is some sort of irritation in your body that needs to be found and addressed before any digestive relief is possible. This is why chiropractic care is so effective with digestive complaints. Because much like any other ailment you can get, many times it can be traced down to an irritated nerve. A chiropractor's expertise is to find the irritated nerve and address it through specific chiropractic adjustments. Adjusting the spine is less invasive than taking medication. So whether you have tried everything and still have seen no change in your digestion, or you've been on medication to help with digestion for a long time, it may be time to find a chiropractor near you to address the root of the digestive complaints.
