What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractors are doctors who specialize in the nervous system and whole body physiology. The brain, spinal cord, and all other nerves make up the nervous system. This intricate system branches out and touches every living cell in your body, providing the power for your body to function. Every function that your body does such as walking, pumping blood through the heart, breathing, digesting food, or even the small things like writing or typing with a steady hand are possible because the nervous system coordinates all cells of your body! Chiropractic therefore, is the practice of keeping the nervous system healthy so your body can perform all of its many different functions effectively. Helping back pain is just the tip of the iceberg of what chiropractic is all about! The spine is the Chiropractors particular area of interest because that is where the nerves are most prone to being irritated causing some sort of dysfunction in your body. By adjusting your spine at the area of nerve irritation (aka the subluxation), the bone moves taking the pressure and irritation off of the nerve, allowing it to heal and therefore allowing your body to function the way it should!
Chiropractic differs from the classic medical view in many ways. Medical Doctors are focused on the effects of the body: prescribing medication or surgery to help keep symptoms under control. Where Doctors of Chiropractic are focused on the cause: the starting point of where all the effects come from, and the starting point is usually found at the level of the nervous system.
As a chiropractor in Maplewood, my goal is to find the irritated nerve and remove the cause through chiropractic adjustments giving you relief.
